Sheena Lau, spokesperson of the NRC, told Al Jazeera TV channel that the Strip is suffering a growing humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the Israeli blockade and airstrikes.
People are being killed there due to the continuous shelling, Lau underscored.
The spokesperson stressed that the situation is worsening due to hunger and disease, and called for reopening border crossings to prevent a further humanitarian catastrophe.
Given this situation, she called on the world to confront Israeli policies and prevent the Army from imposing control over the northern city of Gaza, the target of a ground offensive for the last three weeks.
The United Nations recently warned that the lives of Gazans are in danger after “almost two years of conflict, systematic displacement, and severe restrictions on humanitarian access, aggravated by recurring suspensions and obstacles to access to food, water, medical assistance, support for agriculture, livestock, and fishing, and the collapse of health and sanitation systems.”
