The declaration, adopted at the High-Level Conference on Palestine held in New York from July 28 to 30, seeks recognition of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish a sovereign, independent, and economically viable state.
It also demands the right of return for refugees, calls for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and demands unrestricted respect for international law and the guarantee of effective accountability mechanisms.
The document also calls for the immediate, secure, and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid in response to the serious crisis in the region, condemns the use of starvation as a method of warfare, rejects the forced displacement of Palestinian communities, and calls for an end to the settlement policy.
According to the source, with its accession, Colombia reaffirms its historic and unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and its firm commitment to the principles of international law.
Furthermore, the source stated that the Gustavo Petro administration regrets the recent unilateral measures announced by the United States against the diplomatic representation of the State of Palestine, which seek to prevent its officials from participating in the UN General Assembly.
This announcement, the source noted, constitutes a flagrant violation of the Headquarters Agreement signed in 1947 between the United Nations and the United States, which established the Organization’s headquarters in New York.
Colombia hopes that the US authorities will reconsider their decision and provide the necessary guarantees, it requested.
