According to ProCuba’s Head of Research and Markets, Alegna Lombillo, who spoke to Prensa Latina, the main objective of the exchange with representatives of countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is to initiate a rapprochement with Asian countries and delve into the trade opportunities we can jointly develop.
We also seek to explore lines of cooperation; identify which sectors our Asian partners are strong in, which ones we have potential in, and how we can strengthen our bilateral relations in a mutually beneficial manner, she explained.
Despite the great geographical distance, we have found many commonalities, especially in priority sectors for Cuba. One of them is food production, an area of shared interest, as well as the energy sector, particularly in relation to renewable energy, Lombillo stated.
Many Asian countries, he said, have more advanced policies and greater experience in this field, which is key for us, since the energy transition is a pending task and a national necessity. We have much to learn and, at the same time, great potential for improvement.
Other sectors of great interest, Lombillo explained, are health and medicine, exchanges in strategic areas such as education, medicine, culture, and other cooperation sectors, where both parties have much to contribute.
We are open to exploring synergies in key sectors, learning from the advanced experiences of our partners, and, at the same time, contributing with our strengths, especially in health, education, and biotechnology.
