China’s Media Forum discusses unity and challenges of Global South

Kunming, China, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) More than 500 representatives from 110 countries of the Global South opened a forum in this city on Saturday, focused on strengthening alliances in the face of a scenario marked by disinformation and fake news.

The event also marks the formal launch of the Global South Joint Communication Partnership Network, which brings together over 1,000 media outlets, think tanks, and other institutions from 95 nations and regions.

Prensa Latina Information Vice President Alejandro Gomez, who is participating on behalf of the agency, highlighted the need to reflect the realities and aspirations of the nations of the Global South.

Gomez added, “We trust that this forum will contribute to amplifying these efforts, reaffirming our collective commitment to a more just and balanced world, and denouncing coercive measures such as the United States blockade against Cuba, which violates international law and the fundamental right to development.”

The Global South Media and Think Tank Forum is a platform to articulate the voices of the South in an international scenario marked by inequality and the concentration of power in large media centers.

Gomez noted, “From Prensa Latina, we expect that this space allows us to strengthen cooperation between media and think tanks, so that we can counteract hegemonic narratives and place the realities, aspirations, and proposals of our peoples on the international agenda.”

The Prensa Latina executive also highlighted China’s key role in this regard, as this nation not only promotes mechanisms such as the BRICS, the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), and similar forums but also articulates common agendas and gives visibility to the demands of the South at major international events.

The 2025 edition of the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum supports the call to promote media development and cooperation in times of worsening global media warfare.
