Turkish FM confirms support for Palestine in international forums

Ankara,Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) Türkiye’s foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, said today that Palestinian issues cannot be discussed without the direct involvement of the Palestinians.

During a meeting with journalists at the Turkish Press Association in Ankara, the head of diplomacy called unacceptable the US decision to revoke visas for Palestinian officials, including President Mahmoud Abbas.

Fidan stressed that Türkiye fully supports the inclusion of Palestine in international forums and condemned the exclusion of its official representatives from bodies such as the UN General Assembly.

The denial of visas does not mean that Palestine cannot participate as a state.

There is a permanent representative who has the right to speak on behalf of the State of Palestine, according to the UN Charter, said the Foreign Minister.

Fidan confirmed that it had been agreed that several countries, with the support of Türkiye, would lead the organization of an international conference on Palestine within the framework of the United Nations, and that some western nations, such as France and Belgium, would be close to recognizing the Palestinian state.

The minister noted that Türkiye has had intensive talks with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and Oman, who agree that the conference should be held without exclusions and that recognition of Palestine as a state is an urgent priority.

For decades, Israel has maintained an illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories and rejects the creation of an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem, according to the pre-1967 borders.
