“Today we commemorate the 177th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Guatemala.
We reaffirm our commitment to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite our peoples”, said the Ministry on the social network X.
During a meeting in Petén, Guatemala, on August 15, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and her counterpart from the neighbouring country, Bernardo Arevalo, ratified concrete commitments in cooperation for development, safety, railway infrastructure, energy and environment.
Also on that date, Sheinbaum signed a trilateral agreement with Arevalo and the Belizean Governor, Johnny Briceño, to preserve 5.7 million hectares of the heart of Mesoamerica through the creation of a new Biocultural Corridor in the Great Maya Jungle.
The latter, according to a statement by the Secretariat of the Environment, with the objective of strengthening cooperation in conservation and ecological integrity to benefit about seven thousand species, 200 in risk category, 50 priority and 250 endemic of Mexico.
