South Africa and Algeria agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Pretoria, Sept 8 (Prensa Latina) South Africa and Algeria are making progress in creating new trade routes and cooperation mechanisms to boost bilateral trade and improve market access.

This progress was achieved following a meeting held in Algiers between the South African Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, Parks Tau, and his Algerian counterpart, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rezig.

Both authorities assessed the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Economic Cooperation, signed in December 2024 during the Binational Commission between the two countries.

The agreement covers cooperation in key areas such as trade, industrial development, and infrastructure, aiming to consolidate a strategic economic alliance.

During the meeting, Tau emphasized that the MoU serves as a general framework within which specific trade and investment agreements are developed and defined.

In this context, the two Ministers proposed the creation of a Joint Committee on Trade and Investment to act as a permanent platform to facilitate and strengthen bilateral economic relations.

Furthermore, according to the text, Tau emphasized South Africa’s commitment to continental integration and its commitment to a resilient, inclusive, and innovation-based economy, joining forces with Algeria and other African partners.
