According to a statement from the Ministry, the Summit, to be held from September 8 to 10, is co-organized by the African Union and the Ethiopian government under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Resilient and Green Development in Africa.”
It will bring together key stakeholders from the continent to discuss response strategies to the climate crisis.
According to the statement, the meeting offers a platform for legislators, experts, business leaders, and civil society to promote African-led climate solutions.
The Ministry also highlighted how the region, one of the most affected by climate change, highlights South Africa’s strong commitment to a low-carbon and resilient economy, strengthening regional collaboration for climate action.
In remarks prior to the Summit, George emphasized that “the African voice will be critical in leading the transition from words to action” during the close of South Africa’s G20 presidency and the preparations for the Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Brazil.
