In just two days, the president rejected legislation stipulating funding to guarantee pediatric healthcare and the operation of the country’s higher education institutions. He also vetoed the regulation on the distribution of funds from the National Treasury and fuel taxes among the provinces, at the request of governors.
They also plan to demonstrate in front of the National Congress, as the State Workers Association that has agreed to join the actions of the medical and university staff, therefore, large demonstrations are expected next week.
Congressional representatives are preparing to debate and overrule presidential vetoes. Unions, rectors, and the student federation will accompany the session next Wednesday with the “Third Federal March,” which is expected to be massive.
The Association of Professionals and Technicians (APyT), which represents the medical staff at Garrahan University, is developing an action plan under the slogan “We’ll veto Milei in the streets” and also confirmed the holding of an assembly on Friday to agree on the next steps.
The APyT proposes a press conference of all sectors supporting the Garrahan University, Public Health, and the University, agreed upon in an Open Town Hall meeting of more than 30 organizations, to request that legislators address the issue.
Authorities from the University of Buenos Aires and the National Interuniversity Council warned in a joint press conference on Thursday about the seriousness of the budget situation.
