Led by Cuban Ambassador Oscar Leon and Consul David Fundora, the meeting, which took place at the official residence, was part of the diplomatic mission’s desire for dialogue with its fellow citizens there and the continuity of the topics addressed at the Conference on the Nation and Emigration.
Leon, grateful for the support of those present, highlighted the sense of unity that prevailed at the meeting, which he described as fruitful, and reaffirmed the Cuban Embassy’s commitment to promoting exchanges of this nature to address the concerns and serve the Cuban community in the country.
She mentioned the participation of several Cubans residing in Angola in online forums organized by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange experiences and proposals with professionals from different sectors, with a view to fostering closer ties with the Caribbean nation and its development.
From these virtual meetings, ideas emerged, such as the creation of a WhatsApp group uniting Cuban educators in Angola, an experience that Professor Heidy Cantillo considered valuable, as it shares information and facilitates mutual cooperation.
Yirma Martinez noted that while there are approximately 11,000 Cubans registered with the Embassy as residents in Angola, the community is likely much larger than double that number, so the issue of flights to the island and package delivery is another matter of great interest.
He proposed considering the creation of a health insurance plan linked to the Meditex clinic and business between Cuban residents and Antex companies. Other participants added the possibility of holding health fairs and exhibits of Cuban-made products and services, as well as facilitating training and advancement at Cuban universities, whether in person or virtually.
