Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian thus responded during a regular press briefing to questions about reports published in The Economist and The New York Times.

These media outlets documented how the aggressive US pressure policy toward Latin America has yielded few results in its attempt to reduce regional ties with China.

The official spokesperson stated, “This proves that practices of coercion, intimidation, and domination lack popular support and are increasingly unworkable.”

Lin Jian underscored that China and Latin America are “good friends and partners” and cooperate based on “equality, mutual benefit, and joint development.”

The Chinese spokesperson emphasized that the Latin American and Caribbean region “is no one’s backyard” and has the right to choose its development paths and cooperative partners.

The diplomat expressed that China welcomes the development of friendly relations with Latin American nations based on equality and respect.

Lin Jian advised the United States to cease its coercion of Latin American countries to take sides and stop its interference in their internal affairs.

The spokesperson affirmed, “Any attempt to sabotage the friendly relations between China and Latin America, or obstruct mutually beneficial cooperation, will not succeed.”

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez underscored, in a recent interview with Prensa Latina, the importance of Beijing as a trade and investment partner for the region, as this rapprochement occurs in a different way than that of US imperialism.
