Prime Minister Manuel Marrero reported this on the social media platform X, where he specified that no injuries were reported and that the causes of the fire are being investigated.
“We have been in direct contact with the provincial authorities, who have been on site from the very beginning,” he added.
For his part, the Director of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Lázaro Guerra, explained that the fire occurred in the fuel engine room of the thermal block, so the plant as a whole was not affected.
He also noted that there were no damage to the fuel tanks.
Cuba is experiencing a complex electricity situation, exacerbated by aging infrastructure, delayed maintenance, and a lack of funding for major interventions in generating blocks.
