While this is a cause for concern in the Caribbean nation, a new CEP president, Jacques Desrosiers, was elected, and Jaccéus Joseph, a representative of farmers’ associations, was elected vice president.
Reformed religious leader Peterson Pierre-Louis became secretary, and Nemrod Sanon, from the union sector, was approved as treasurer.
According to the newspaper Le Nouvelliste, the CEP is still awaiting decisions from the Transitional Presidential Council on the organization of this year’s referendum and elections.
However, the Haitian government and the Transitional Presidential Council remain confident in the possibility of holding general elections next November and a constitutional referendum.
In this regard, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier announced in his framework letter for the 2025-2026 budget that a total of US$67.5 million is earmarked to realize the aspirations of holding the two referendums.
