Turkish Foreign Minister calls Israel a rogue actor

Ankara, September 27 (Prensa Latina) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan accused the Israeli government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, of having become a "rogue actor" in the region.

Quoted by Anadolu Agency, during his speech at the annual coordination meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held within the framework of the UN General Assembly in New York, Fidan denounced the expansionist policies and crimes committed by Tel Aviv against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

He warned that Israel’s behavior poses a direct threat to regional stability and international law: “Israel, under Netanyahu’s leadership and his obsession with dreams of a “Greater Israel,” has ceased to be a reliable partner and has transformed into a rogue actor that ignores the fundamental principles of the international system,” the Turkish foreign minister declared.

Fidan who decried Israeli military operations in Gaza which have left genocide, humanitarian crisis, including a famine, and destruction, also denounced the continued efforts to annex the West Bank and forcibly displace Palestinians, actions he described as a deliberate strategy of territorial expansion and ethnic cleansing.

The Turkish Foreign Minister urged OIC member countries to act in a coordinated and firm manner, demanding an end to all arms and ammunition transfers to Israel, in addition to intensifying diplomatic and legal pressure before international organizations.

In this regard, he emphasized the need to strengthen international legal channels by activating mechanisms before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in order to end impunity for crimes committed by the Israeli state.

The Turkish Foreign Minister concluded his remarks by calling on the international community, and especially OIC member countries, to redouble their diplomatic, political, and economic efforts in support of the Palestinian people and the reconstruction process in Syria, at a time of heightened regional tension.
