During official talks held at the Palace of the Revolution, the headquarters of the executive branch, Diaz-Canel expressed to the African leader that it is an honor for the people and the government to receive him for the first time in his capacity as President of the sister nation of Gabon.
The Cuban president especially expressed his gratitude for the Gabonese government’s historic support in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the island.
Both parties emphasized their interest in deepening collaborative ties in strategic sectors such as health, education, and agriculture.
In this context, they signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement, which will serve as the basis for developing and implementing joint programs and projects between public and private institutions in both countries.
In addition, they signed an Agreement on the Execution of Criminal Sentences, which will facilitate coordination in matters of mutual legal assistance for the transfer of convicted citizens of each nation.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Ministries of Agriculture of Cuba and Gabon, aimed at promoting cooperation in agricultural and livestock activities.
