Cuban paraathletes reaffirm support for peace in Venezuela

New Delhi, Sept 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's representatives at the World Para Athletics Championships reaffirmed their support for Venezuela and their rejection of the United States military threat against the South American nation.

The members of the Cuban delegation signed a declaration in defense of peace for the peoples of the world, particularly those of Latin America, and denouncing coercive actions of all kinds that seek to destroy democracy and the sovereignty of nations.

The US government is threatening military intervention against Venezuela with ships and submarines near the coast of the South American country under the unfounded pretext of a supposed fight against drug trafficking.

The day before, Foreign Minister Yvan Gil reaffirmed his country’s commitment to peace and self-determination before the United Nations General Assembly, defending its right to sovereignty against the US threat of aggression.

In presenting the report, the senior diplomat stated that after 26 years of the Bolivarian Revolution, global public opinion and the world “know very well” everything the United States did to overthrow leader Hugo Chavez and put an end to the historic project, which has been successively supported by the Venezuelan people in 32 elections.

He denounced the countless attacks in recent years, including destabilization actions and conspiracies, an assassination attempt, mercenary incursions, and the economic war, which is expressed in the 1,042 sanctions against the oil industry and productive sectors.

The Bolivarian Foreign Minister added that the military threat has now been added, with the deployment of warships in Caribbean waters, which he described as “illegal and immoral” and a violation of the United Nations Charter and Venezuela’s rights as a sovereign state, in addition to U.S. laws.
