Colombia and Venezuela move forward consolidating Binational Zones (+Photo)

Caracas, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela and Colombia are advancing in the consolidation of the so-called Binational Peace Zones, with the goal of transforming their shared border, which stretches over two thousand kilometers, into areas of shared benefit between their peoples.

During last night’s broadcast of his nightly program “Con Maduro +,” President Nicolas Maduro highlighted concrete advances as part of this strategy, which seeks to transform these borders into spaces for cooperation, development, and peaceful coexistence.

In this regard, he mentioned the progress made in consolidating the three Peace Zones along the Colombian-Venezuelan border, which include the states of Zulia and Tachira; Apure; and Amazonas.

What we are building there is the possibility of a binational region of peace and for Colombia to find its way to replacing the 50,000 hectares planted with coca leaf on the Colombian side in Catatumbo. “That would be the great achievement of the Colombian nation,” he affirmed.

He emphasized that on the Venezuelan side, they have achieved great results with the entire state of Zulia and Tachira as “a territory free of coca leaf production, cocaine, and armed drug trafficking gangs.”

The governor of Zulia, Luis Caldera, stated that “there are already concrete actions” that are yielding results and mentioned the close territorial ties, which are expressed in the daily exchanges between 1,860 communities in seven of the 21 municipalities of the governorate and three Colombian departments.

The governor of the state of Amazonas, Miguel Rodriguez, also offered details about the First Orinoco Binational Forum, emphasizing that it was a meeting to boost cooperation, culture, and development.
