The ceremony began playing of the national anthem by the military band. Those present kept one minute of silence in tribute to those who gave their lives for the liberation of the people and the construction of the People’s Republic of China.
Children and adolescents sang the Young Pioneers Organization anthem and laid flowers at the Monument built to the People’s Heroes.
Nine large baskets with red ribbons and the inscription “Eternal Glory to the People’s Heroes” were placed in front of the monument by representatives of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the National People’s Congress, the State Council, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and the Central Military Commission.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the defeat of fascism on a global scale.
War veterans, families of martyrs, representatives of democratic parties, social organizations, workers, students, and residents of the capital attended the ceremony.
China established September 30 as Martyrs’ Day in 2014 to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for national independence and the country’s prosperity.
