In a message published on the social network X, the Foreign Minister pointed out that 43 countries filed complaints against the blockade imposed by the United States, which he described as genocidal, and 19 called for Cuba to be removed from the unilateral list of states sponsoring terrorism.
States expressing solidarity with the island include Brazil, Suriname, South Africa, Mozambique, Colombia, Vietnam, Angola, Nauru, Namibia, Guyana, Republic of the Congo, Bolivia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Dominica, Tanzania, Uganda, Sao Tome and Principe and Mexico.
Reference was also made to Cuba by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Jamaica, Belize, Nicaragua, Timor-Leste, Lesotho, Antigua and Barbuda, Tuvalu, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Bahamas, Grenada, Burkina Faso, St Kitts and Nevis, Laos, Russia, Belarus, Eritrea, Saint Lucia and Honduras.
On Saturday, speaking at the podium of the General Assembly, the Cuban Foreign Minister said that the blockade against his country “persists and hardens to the extreme”.
“This is a real economic war, encompassing and prolonged, aimed at depriving the Cubans of their livelihoods and sustainability, of their existence as a solidary, cultured and joyful people,” he added.
“Those who profess the contrary are deliberately lying,” stressed the minister, underlining that the very promoters of this policy exult over its destructive effect and its ability to strike from any corner of the planet at the standard of living of an entire people.
