Colombia: UN to report on Peace Agreement progress

Bogota, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia will release the quarterly report it will present to the Security Council on the progress and challenges in the implementation of the 2016 Final Peace Agreement.

The report, which covers from June 27 to September 26, 2025, will be presented by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ Special Representative for Colombia, Miroslav Jenca, at the said UN body on Friday.

The United Nations highlighted, in the previous report, this country’s determination “to establish a lasting peace after decades of armed conflict,” while considering that its efforts deserve the continued and firm support of the international community.

Antonio Guterres also expressed his concern about the persistent violence affecting the civilian population in several regions of Colombia, with particular harm to Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, children recruited by armed groups, ex-combatants, and social leaders.

“I call on armed groups to cease all threats and violence against the civilian population. I also urge the State, as a whole, to adopt appropriate measures to strengthen security, combat illegal economies, preserve justice, and protect all affected communities,” he requested.

He highlighted the establishment by decree of the Comprehensive Protection Program for Ex-Combatants, which includes the formalization of the Tripartite Protection and Security Body, designed to prevent or resolve security-related problems and bring together representatives of the State, ex-combatants, and the Verification Mission.

The report also warned that, as of June 26, the number of peace signatories killed had risen to 470.
