Italy remembers thousands of doctors killed by Israel in Gaza

Rome, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) More than 40,000 Italian healthcare workers are remembering, through simultaneous events in 230 hospitals across the country, the 1,677 Palestinian colleagues killed by Israel in Gaza Strip.

The event, under the slogan “Lights for Palestine,” was organized through social media by the organization Sanitarios por Gaza, which brings together representatives from the sector who light up the facades of health centers with various luminous sources and read a statement condemning the crimes committed by Tel Aviv, which they describe as a massacre.

This initiative is part of the mobilizations taking place throughout Italy this Thursday to protest the attacks by Israeli forces on the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF).

As part of the spontaneous demonstrations in support of the activists aboard the GSF, a march took place in Rome, with the participation of some 10,000 people.

In Naples, activists defending the Palestinian cause occupied the platforms of the Central Station, while in Milan, hundreds of people gathered in Piazza della Scala, and in Turin, protesters occupied the Palazzo Nuovo.

The protests spread to Florence, Genoa, Perugia, Siena, and Pescara, as well as Pisa, where hundreds of people disrupted rail traffic chanting slogans in support of the Palestinian people. In Livorno, actions took place at the port, paralyzing its operations.

The Faculty of Political Science at La Sapienza University in Rome and other institutes in several Italian cities were occupied by students, who chanted, “We are the land crew of the flotilla, ready to support our comrades at sea with protests,” the source said.

The Italian General Confederation of Labor, the Union of Base Trade Unions, and other major unions announced a national general strike, while the Faculty of Political Science at La Sapienza University in Rome and other institutes in several Italian cities were occupied by students, who chanted, “We are the land crew of the flotilla, ready to support our comrades at sea with protests,” the source said.
