Cuba condemns Israeli interception of Global Sumud Flotilla

Havana, Oct. 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuba expressed its strongest condemnation of Israel's interception of the Global Sumud flotilla, which was transporting essential humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Through the social media platform X, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero denounced that “once again, international solidarity with Palestine is being blocked” and demanded an immediate end to the genocide.

Using the same platform, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also rejected the Israeli action and denounced that “the Zionist regime continues to flout international law and global demands to stop its genocide against the Palestinian people.”

The foreign minister sent a message of solidarity to all members of the flotilla, most of whom were detained by Israel in international waters, in what he described as a “flagrant violation of international law.”

Rodriguez shared on his profile statements by young Spanish journalist Nestor Prieto, a friend of Cuba, who was detained along with his colleagues by Israeli authorities. In response, he demanded his release and that of all members of the GlobalSumud Flotilla.

Previously, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel had condemned “in the strongest terms the interception of the Global Sumud flotilla by the Zionist government of Israel.”

In his post on X, the president emphasized that these events “confirm the genocidal nature of the Israeli regime, which knows no bounds,” and reaffirmed Cuba’s support and solidarity with the crew members, whom he described as brave.
