Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel in Egypt

Cairo, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Egypt holds indirect negotiations between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to end the war in the Gaza Strip, according to reports by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, first phase focused on "establishing the necessary humanitarian and logistical conditions" to implement an exchange of Israeli and Palestinian detainees.

The Ministry expressed that the details of the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to halt the hostilities in under discussion.

The American press reported that the US delegation is led by Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, while the Israeli delegation will be led by Minister Ron Dermer.

Al Jazeera television reported that several Hamas leaders take part in the talks in Cairo, among them Khalil al-Hayya, whom Israel attempted to assassinate in Doha, Qatar, in a failed attack that sparked a wave of international criticism.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by telephone the day before on the issue with his Qatari and Dutch counterparts, and with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh.

An Egyptian source announced that, as part of efforts to end the Israeli aggression against the coastal enclave, the nation will also host an inter-Palestinian dialogue to decide the future of the Gaza Strip.
