At a press conference, Santiago stressed that the consolidation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, outlined yesterday in Egypt, “should not be used by the United States to carry out the invasion of Venezuela.”
On behalf of the IU, Santiago expressed support for a “genuine peace plan for the region, for Palestine, led by the international community, that respects United Nations resolutions, and that will finally allow a viable Palestinian state to become a reality.”
Regarding Venezuela, he acknowledged that “we are extremely concerned about the military deployment off the coast” of the South American state.
He referred to the disappointment of the “Nobel Prize awarded last week to Mrs. María Corina Machado,” an award that “Mrs. Machado herself offered to Trump.”
“We believe that the political environment may be preparing for an invasion of Venezuela, which would be politically serious for all of Latin America,” he commented.
