The facility, built in conjunction with the Italian authorities, covers an area of approximately 1,300 square meters and aims to serve as a dynamic educational platform, bringing together agricultural heritage and traditions, science, and innovation, according to a press release.
The inauguration ceremony of this facility, also held within the framework of the celebration of World Food Day this Thursday, began at 9:30 a.m. local time with the participation of FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
The FAO MuNe, located at the international organization’s headquarters in central Rome, features 12 rooms displaying a wide collection of artwork donated by member countries, focusing on the themes of food, agriculture, and sustainability.
In his inaugural address, the FAO Director-General stated that this museum, which opens its doors on a historic day, commemorating the institution’s anniversary, is a space to “reflect on eight decades of work and growth.”
“It is a new way to share FAO’s mandate with the world through knowledge, culture, and innovation, connecting and inspiring an audience, visitors from around the world,” with the goal of “looking forward with renewed determination to build a sustainable future with food security for all,” he added.
