According to other sources cited in the press, the robbery occurred in display cases at the world’s most famous and most visited museum, which housed “Napoleon’s jewels” and “jewels of the sovereigns.”
The thieves allegedly entered through a window with the help of a forklift and fled on scooters.
The robbery took place between 9:30 and 9:40 a.m. local time, involving an unspecified number of people, with police investigations ongoing.
On its official website, the Louvre Museum, famous for displaying masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa (Gioconda), the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Seated Scribe, announced the closure of its doors for the entire Sunday for “exceptional reasons.”
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into organized robbery and criminal conspiracy to commit a crime.
