Cuba’s Ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, stated that this year’s celebration has special significance, as it is dedicated to the 100th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, the 95th birthday of Armando Hart Davalos, the 100th birthday of playwright Abelardo Estorino, and the 95th birthday of Omara Portuondo and Alfredo Sosabravo.

Blanco underscored that the celebration coincides with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and China, and highlighted that it is “a favorable framework to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries.”

The Embassy organized a cycle of Cuban films with the screening of the movies “Clandestinos” (Clandestines) and “Inocencia” (Innocence), accompanied by Chinese friends and Spanish language students.

The ambassador affirmed that celebrating this date should be a reason for reflection and commitment to the Homeland, because “only culture saves people, unites them, and strengthens them.”

The diplomat also urged promoting Cuban culture in China and “bringing our peoples closer every day through the historical and human ties that unite them.”

Cuban Culture Day is celebrated annually on October 20, in commemoration of the first time the National Anthem was sung in 1868, during the struggle for independence.
