Following recent statements by US President Donald Trump regarding Taiwan, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing’s stance on the issue “is consistent and clear.”
Guo underscored, “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Taiwan question is purely China’s domestic affairs.”
The spokesperson added that the way to find a solution to Taiwan issue “is a matter for the Chinese ourselves to resolve” and reaffirmed the country’s willingness to seek reunification through peaceful means.
He affirmed, “We will show the utmost sincerity and make the greatest efforts for peaceful reunification, but we will not allow any person or force to try to divide Taiwan from China by any means.”
Regarding Trump’s possible visit to China next year, Guo pointed out that diplomacy between heads of State plays an irreplaceable role in relations between the two countries, and stressed that “the two leaders maintain close communication.”
China and the United States maintain tensions over the Taiwan question, to which Washington supplies weapons and maintains official contacts despite recognizing the one-China principle since 1979.
