Palestinian National Council (PNC) Chairman Rawhi Fattouh questioned the first reading of an initiative submitted by far-right legislator Avio Maoz to apply Israeli law and national sovereignty to the region.
Fattouh also criticized another plan to legalize, from an Israeli perspective, one of Israel’s settlements in the territory.
The PNC chairman described these regulations as racist and affirmed that they represent a declaration of intent by the neighboring country to bury any option for peace.
The statement underscored that they also undermine the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The text asserted that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip make up the Palestinian State and, therefore, Israel has no sovereignty over those territories.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a similar statement after “rejecting and condemning in the strongest terms the attempts by the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) to annex Palestinian lands.”
