This trade union organization specifically supports the expanded proposal submitted by the Polisario Front to the United Nations, which seeks self-determination for the people of Western Sahara and a just and lasting peace.
The Sahrawi authorities took this initiative as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) prepares to consider the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) as a gesture of goodwill.
It did so to “promote a mutually acceptable political solution that provides for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara and restores regional peace and stability.”
The offer bears the signature of Brahim Ghali, current President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, who sent it to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The aim is to allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination through a referendum supervised by the United Nations and the African Union (AU).
