PT-Brazil appeals decision to dismiss impeachment of Bolsonaro’s son

Brasilia, Oct. 24 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Workers' Party (PT) is filing an appeal before the Chamber of Deputies against the dismissal of the impeachment proceedings against Representative Eduardo Bolsonaro for actions abroad against national institutions.

This appeal was submitted by the leader of the PT in the lower house, Lindbergh Farias, who obtained 86 signatures to reject the Ethics Council’s verdict.

According to the regulations of that assembly, 52 signatures are required to present an appeal to the full chamber. The speaker of the lower house, Hugo Motta, has no deadline to schedule the matter. With 11 votes in favor and seven against, the Ethics Council dismissed the PT’s complaint against the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

The political organization accused the congressman of violating parliamentary decorum by promoting “verbal attacks against democratic institutions, such as the Supreme Federal Court (STF), and attempting to influence foreign authorities to impose sanctions against Brazil.”

The legislator that left the country in February is living in the United States, where he stated he would only return after securing the dismissal of STF Judge Alexandre de Moraes.

He repeatedly acknowledged that he is working with the White House to request sanctions against Brazilian officials and other measures.

Washington imposed an additional 50 percent tariff on Brazilian products amid the congressman’s efforts.
