South Africa holds G20 debate on local communities

Pretoria, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) The South African government is holding an outreach program within the framework of the G20 summit, aimed at the public, as part of its presidency of the group, according to the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the University of South Africa and the Rustenburg Municipality, is taking place under the theme “Inclusive Economic Growth and a Just Transition for Sustainable Development.”

According to a ministerial statement, South Africa’s G20 presidency, held under the motto “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” represents a crucial opportunity to shape global dialogues and promote inclusive growth, peace, and sustainable development.

The meeting is part of national efforts to “bring the G20 to the people,” ensuring that communities, businesses, academics, and civil society actively participate in discussions about how global economic decisions can translate into tangible local benefits, the text adds.

The debate focuses on inclusive growth and a “just transition,” particularly in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and tourism, with an emphasis on how all social segments, including women, youth, and local communities, can participate equitably in economic opportunities.

As the first African country to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit, to be held this November, South Africa seeks to amplify the continent’s voice in discussions on global governance and economic reform.
