Built on approximately 480,000 square meters, the cultural institution houses more than 57,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of treasures of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, displayed together for the first time.
Egyptian authorities stated that the GEM is the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.
In its grand atrium, a colossal statue of Ramses II greets visitors, as Prensa Latina observed during a tour of the facility.
The complex, located just two kilometers from the Pyramids of Giza, also includes numerous laboratories and a conservation center of approximately 30,000 square meters.
GEM director Ahmed Ghoneim said on a local television that the project will become one of the largest and most prominent cultural and heritage institutions in the world.
