UNRWA Spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna told Safa, “Our work continues in the Gaza Strip despite the Israeli campaign against us.”
Abu Hasna underscored, “UNRWA is not in its best moment; it is the target of an organized media and political campaign, for which millions of dollars have been spent on social media, in Europe and the United States.”
Nevertheless, he affirmed that the UN agency for Palestinian refugees is maintaining its operations in the coastal enclave, devastated after two years of Israeli attacks.
He emphasized that there are also political challenges directed against some European parliaments in an attempt to reduce funding for the organization.
The spokesperson noted that this situation has resulted in a deficit of approximately 200 million dollars in the regular budget, an amount that covers the salaries of its employees in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the West Bank, and Gaza.
Abu Hasna criticized the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for blocking the entry of essential supplies into the Gaza Strip that UNRWA has stored in Egypt and Jordan, an amount that could fill up to 6,000 aid trucks.
