The union representing the Costa Rican Social Security Fund conveyed its “firm” and “fraternal” friendship with the people and workers of the Caribbean nation, according to an article published this Wednesday by the “Embrace Cuba” campaign, led by Costa Rican intellectual and journalist Rafael Ugalde.
The text also acknowledges the efforts in this regard of all other “sister” labor organizations in Costa Rica and other countries, dedicated to defending the “sovereignty and self-determination” of the island nation.
The statement from Undeca, commented on by the former Prensa Latina journalist, underscores the situation on the island, “besieged by a cruel U.S. trade and financial blockade, which further hinders international aid and recovery from the devastation of the recent Hurricane Melissa.”
Ugalde’s article highlights the part of the Costa Rican union’s statement that “calls on the World Federation of Trade Unions and the Costa Rican United Trade Union and Social Bloc to join forces in support of Cuba ‘in this moment of human suffering.’”
The “Embrace Cuba” campaign, launched by journalist Ugalde, points out that Undeca “led by example, being one of the first trade union organizations in the country to send its donation to Cuba.”
