The activist told the Qatari television network Al Jazeera that the inhabitants of that coastal enclave continue to suffer from hunger, despite the ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10.
Al-Shawa also criticized the Israeli attempts to close the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), an agency he considered the backbone of humanitarian work in the occupied territories.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tightened procedures against dozens of humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza and the West Bank to force them to cease their activities.
Ismail al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, accused Israel of maintaining restrictions on the entry of food and medicine, in clear violation of the signed agreements.
Al-Thawabta affirmed that Netanyahu government is using food as a weapon of war, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
