Italy supports strengthening the CELAC-EU alliance

Rome, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) During the IV Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), Italy is supporting a strengthening of ties between both regions, according to a statement released.

A note published this Monday on the official website of the Italian Foreign Ministry indicates that the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, is participating in this meeting, held in the Colombian city of Santa Marta on the 9th and 10th of this month.

During her address at the forum yesterday, Tripodi emphasized that “the recent progress in EU agreements with its Latin American partners confirms the potential for strengthening economic ties.”

This summit “reaffirms the growing interest of Italy and the EU in the Euro-Latin American alliance, which involves more than a third of the member states of the United Nations,” she noted.

“In times of uncertainty, we must strengthen our interconnections, diversify markets, and cooperate more decisively to face common challenges,” she asserted.

“Our goal is clear: to build together an alliance based on trust, reciprocity, and shared prosperity,” the high-ranking official concluded, addressing the participants at the event.

At the heart of Italy’s position during the meeting was support for strengthening the rules-based international order, the triple transition of climate, energy, and the environment, the promotion of trade and investment, and the fight against organized crime.
