According to what the Caribbean nation’s diplomat told Prensa Latina on Wednesday, Cuba extended its message of congratulations and support to the new Director General of UNESCO, Khaled Ahmed El-Enany, who took the oath of office and delivered a speech during the investiture ceremony, and stressed the value of cooperation and solidarity in the face of the challenges ahead.
In his address, the former Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities conveyed a message of appreciation to his country for its confidence, as well as to the group of Arab nations, the African group and all member states that trusted in their vision and priorities for the future of the Organization.
He reaffirmed the UNESCO’s message for peoples, emphasizing the vocation of the organization for states and their peoples, which will guide its work, he said.
He also stressed the importance of ongoing talks with all: government representatives, non-governmental organizations and staff of the Secretariat, sending a message of unity in the face of turbulent times are expected.
El-Enany also received congratulations from many member states, the President of the Executive Council, the representative of the outgoing Director-General, the presidents of the six UNESCO electoral groups and representatives of the host country, France, and the host country of the 43rd session of the General Conference, Uzbekistan.
