The first chamber of the Federal Supreme Court tries, virtually, between November 7 and this Friday, the claims of the former ruler.
At the same session, the appeals of six other defendants are analyzed, all ex-allies of the ultra-rightist politician, who were considered the so-called main nucleus of an attempted coup that sought to keep Bolsonaro in power after his electoral defeat in 2022.
The criminal case in which all of them were convicted entered the trial agenda on October 28, one day after the deadline for filing requests had closed.
Among those condemned, only one did not appeal: Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant of Bolsonaro’s orders and informer of the coup plot. According to the judgment, Cid was kept the benefits of the agreement of collaboration awarded, with a sentence of only two years, for which he will not have to serve prison in closed regime.
On November 7, the first panel of the Supreme Court reached unanimity to reject the appeal and confirm the conviction against Bolsonaro.
Once again, the legal staff of the former army captain filed a petition, but four ministers rejected the arguments.
The judges consider motions for clarification, requesting explanations on omissions, contradictions and ambiguities in voting.
Bolsonaro is under house arrest for attempting to obstruct the coup process, according to the courts. However, he has not yet begun to serve the prison sentence resulting from his conviction.
According to the ruling, the former president would only serve his sentence in prison after all appeals have been exhausted.
