New President elect of the National Assembly in DRC

Kinshasa, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The deputy Aimé Boji Sangara is today the new president of the National Assembly (lower house) of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), having been elected with 413 votes out of 423 possible.

Boji Sangara fills the gap left by Vital Kamerhe, who resigned on September 22 amid an investigation by a special commission set up to examine petitions against five members of the lower house.

“I have decided before 110 million Congolese that me myself should not block a large institution like the National Assembly,” said Kamerhe on the occasion.

On the eve, during a plenary session that culminated late at night in the People’s Palace in Kinshasa, the deputies approved Boji Sangara as new president, with all votes favorable and only 10 blank.

At the same meeting, opposition MP Clotilde Mutita Kalunga was elected Deputy Rapporteur of the Bureau of the National Assembly and succeeds Dominique Munongo.

Boji Sangara is an economist by training and entered politics in 2006 as a national deputy, for which he was re-elected in 2011 and 2023 under the banner of the Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC).

He was Minister of Foreign Trade in 2016; Ambassador Itinerant of President Félix Tshisekedi in 2019; Budget Minister from 2021 to 2025, and Minister of Industry since August 2025, a position he resigned on October 10 to run for the presidency of the National Assembly.
