The meeting that brings together Angola, Burundi, the Congo, the Central African Republic, the DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia will focus on peace and security issues in the region, where some of the continent’s most active and complex conflicts persist.
Kinshasa has hosted the preparatory works for the summit, during which issues such as the challenges and prospects of the organization and the security situation in the region were addressed.
Humanitarian crises and difficulties in consolidating a lasting peace persist in the region.
Angola has played a proactive role in mediating conflicts such as those in the Central African Republic, Sudan, South Sudan, and the DRC; however, the results have not lived up to the efforts.
The DRC, which will assume the ICGLR chairmanship for two years, plans to continue along the path of dialogue and seek solutions to the challenges facing the region in several areas.
