The 27-year-old man was elected with more than 94,400 votes after the Communist Party registered him as an independent candidate in district eight, which includes the municipalities of Pudahuel, Quilicura, Maipu, Cerrillos, Colina, Estacion Central, Lampa, and Tiltil.
Gatica wrote on social media, “The people who did not give up won, those who continued dreaming of a fairer country, even when everything seemed uphill.”
He thanked those who placed their trust in him and attributed the victory to all those who have been fighting for years to make dignity a reality, not just a promise.
He wrote, “Jeannette Jara has my support in the runoff. Chile needs to deepen the changes and safeguard the progress we have made, and I trust that she represents that path with clarity and commitment.”
Some 15.7 million voters were called to vote on November 16 to elect the next president, 155 members of the Chamber of Deputies, and 23 of 50 senators.
