Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning noted that the measure is due to Japan’s failure to meet food safety commitments and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statements about Taiwan, which violate international law and damage the political foundation of bilateral relations.
Mao noted that Japan did not deliver the promised technical materials to guarantee the safety of its aquatic products exported to China.
The spokesperson also underscored that Takaichi’s comments were strongly rejected in this nation: “In the current situation, even if Japanese aquatic products are exported to China, there will be no market,” she stressed.
On the other hand, Beijing rejected Japan’s possible admission as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Mao reminded that Tokyo does not meet the requirements due to its lack of reflection on war crimes committed during World War II.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that the Japanese government must retract its statements on Taiwan, or Tokyo will bear the full responsibility for any additional measures.
