Venezuelans vote in 4th National Popular Consultation (+Photos)

Caracas, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) Residents of more than 5,000 Community Circuits in Venezuela go to the polls for the fourth and final National Popular Consultation of the year to elect their development projects, an unprecedented process in the world.

Minister for Communes, Social Movements, and Urban Agriculture, Angel Prado, informed that the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Community Electoral Commissions set up 9,963 polling stations in 8,630 voting centers throughout the country.

A few weeks after the grassroots assemblies in which the people submitted their proposals, 36,674 projects were selected across the 5,336 Community Circuits. The first two projects will receive funding for their implementation. The first-place winner will receive funding from the national government, while the runners-up will be financed by the 24 departmental governments and 335 municipalities across the country.

Citizens will choose from the total of 10,662 projects, which will begin implementation next week.

This figure will join 23,000 projects already approved and executed in the last 18 months, including community financing plans and the acquisition of technological equipment for youth.

Prado stated a few days ago that 19,926 Electoral Commissions, comprised of poll members who will ensure the smooth operation of each voting center, have been activated for these elections, the 9th of the year, three of which were constitutional.
