Vietnam recovers from floods, monitors new tropical depression

Hanoi, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) While the Central region of the country is getting progress from the severe floods recently exerienced in the country, Vietnam is now on track for a new tropical depression that is advancing with strengthening potential.

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasts, at 07:00 (local time) this Tuesday the atmospheric phenomenon was located in the central region of the Philippines.

The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression, which in the next 48 to 72 hours will move mainly westward at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, was 7 (50-61 km/h)level with gusts of 9 (75-88) level.

During the afternoon of November 26 and until 28, the Eastern Central Sea and the maritime area north of the Southeastern Sea (including the maritime area north of the special zone of Truong Sa) may be affected by strong winds of level 10-11 (89 to 117 km/h), with gusts of 14 (150,166) level, alerted the Center.

The institution also warned that vessels operating in the above-mentioned hazardous areas are likely to be affected by storms, whirlwinds, strong winds and large waves.

According to the latest report of the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention, released on the eve, the historic floods occurred in the last few days in the center of the country left a tragic preliminary balance of 102 people dead or missing.

There were also more than 202,000 houses flooded and more than 1,307 hectares of aquaculture, 82,414 hectares of rice and other crops, and some 117,000 hectares of agricultural plantations were severely damaged; and 3.37 million head of livestock and poultry died or were washed away by the current.

Traffic was also affected, with 12 landslides on national roads, while 65 passenger trains were suspended due to rains and floods, which also caused interruptions in electricity service and communications.

Before opening its plenary session yesterday, the National Assembly (Parliament) of Vietnam observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of natural disasters and organized a collection of funds for those affected.
