In his address to the plenary, Mashatile cited a report from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation revealing a significant decline in the distribution capacity of local systems.
According to the document, national reliability has fallen to 68 percent, while 60 percent of supply networks show deterioration in water quality.
The Vice President attributed the situation to a combination of factors, including governance deficiencies, a lack of technical personnel, insufficient investment in infrastructure, and financial management problems.
On this occasion, the Vice President emphasized that the government is taking decisive steps to reverse the situation and guarantee reliable services to communities.
Among the immediate actions, he said, is the work of the Water Task Force, which is responsible for coordinating infrastructure projects, institutional reforms, and improvements in administration.
