This strategy in confronting the gangs that plagued the country for years has so far shown undeniable results, such as the reduction of the homicide rate to 0.08 per day so far in November, a stark contrast to the 14.9 recorded in 2015.
Figures from the National Civil Police (PNC) indicate that between November 1 and 24 of this year, only two homicides were recorded.
In November 2015, the country registered 415 murders attributable to gangs, and since the current administration took office with the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan and the state of emergency, undeniable results have been achieved.
Despite protests from some sectors and human rights organizations, the government insists on maintaining the state of emergency, demonstrating the continued presence of gang members in the country.
The day before, the measure suspending constitutional guarantees of due process, maximum detention periods, and the inviolability of communications was extended by the Legislative Assembly.
The unicameral parliament approved the extension with a vote of 57 in favor and one against, plus two abstentions.
The measure has already led to the arrest of 90,200 suspected gang members and collaborators and has resulted in 1,060 days without homicides since its implementation.
