In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and published today by the local press, Luanda expressed its concern regarding the gravity of the situation in Guinea-Bissau and stressed the urgent need to respect human rights and safeguard the physical integrity of those detained.
The statement specifically referred to outgoing President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, as well as opposition leaders and those responsible for the electoral process.
“In this context, we advocate for the creation of conditions that will allow the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to continue, without pressure or intimidation, its mission of publishing the election results, as planned,” the statement said.
The deposed Guinean president was released yesterday and arrived safely in Senegal on a plane chartered by the Senegalese government, according to a statement from the Senegalese Foreign Ministry.
