The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission are conducting the investigation against Chen Weijun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee in Xinjiang and executive vice president of the local government.
According to the official statement, the high-ranking official is suspected of serious violations of discipline and the law.
Since 2012, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the country has been implementing a comprehensive campaign to eradicate corrupt practices at all levels of government and society.
The Party’s top leadership considers corruption one of the main threats to the political organization.
According to official data, 58 high-ranking officials were investigated last year, while more than 433,000 lower-ranking officials were sanctioned. This strategy reflects the campaign’s emblematic slogan: “We’ll fight tigers and flies alike.”
On this issue, President Xi Jinping said that corruption is “the greatest threat to the Party, and combating it represents the most comprehensive form of self-reform.”
He also noted that this battle remains “a serious and complex challenge” and called for strengthening resolve and confidence in this regard.
