According to a statement released by its affiliated news agency Amaq, fighters from this group attacked two members of what they called the “apostate Syrian army” with machine guns, killing one and wounding the other.
This is the first attack claimed by Daesh against military personnel in areas under government control.
The day before, Daesh also claimed responsibility for an attack on an oil tanker in the northern part of the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.
According to Amaq, militants from the group opened fire with machine guns on the vehicle near the Al-Azba oil field, causing material damage and spilling its cargo before withdrawing without casualties.
In early November, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced the launch of a large-scale security operation against Daesh cells in several provinces, in coordination with the General Directorate of Intelligence.
The most recent result of that campaign was recorded on November 26, when the Aleppo Internal Security Forces dismantled a Daesh-affiliated cell in the city of Afrin, an action that thwarted further attempts at destabilization in the north of the country.
